After a period of crisis for the profit (or return on capital) due to excessive product differentiation, companies started to run towards the effective dimensionality in the business process engineering and lean production represent the core. The abuse was made, however, that the economy of scale and scope led to two main consequences:

primarily to the specialization of production and outsourcing of all activities not strictly related to the core business, things have certainly facilitated the efficiency of companies, but at the expense of flexibility and diversification significantly raising the risk business, and secondly, a reckless use of portfolio diversification in response to ' increased business risk, the entrepreneur has quickly transformed into investor. All this has significantly reduced the capacity to adapt and to generate innovation and, in this context, the recent phenomenon of finance 'structure' has not only accelerated the spiral toward the immaterial, only to further destabilize the system.

To exit this stage, it will therefore be sufficient to create and enforce new rules of transparency. Certain intermediaries (banks) will offer new and more solid guarantees about their actions, but also entrepreneurs will return to focus on generating innovation and returning real value to its stakeholders.
