Hotel for many is like a second home, there are customers who come every week for 3 or 4 days a week, are the so-called regular customers (not to be confused with the peasants who come once every three years and expect the impossible to be regular customers saying) ...
a hotel you choose for various reasons, some of these reasons are price, cleanliness, treatment (there were many others).
we start from pulizia, nessuno di noi dormirebbe in una stanza sporca che si paghi 1000 o 100 Euro a notte!
il prezzo che per noi umani è importante per il cliente abituale non lo è! chi viaggia molto ed è spesso fuori casa preferisci pagare qualcosina in più per un albergo migliore, e qui infilo il trattamento; al cliente abituale piace essere coccolato, piace sentirsi speciale, la prima cosa che insegno ai miei colleghi è di ricordare i nomi dei clienti abituali e chiamarli per (cog)nome (in un albergo grande come dove lavoro io è molto difficile se si pensa che ogni giorno abbiamo circa 400 persone diverse del giorno prima), dire buongiorno or good morning Mr. Smith is not the same thing! say "welcome back" instead of "welcome" change a lot! remember what time that customer wants an alarm clock, which like that other room, the bartender remembers your favorite drink ... the regular customers love these "cuddle"!
obviously give a better room than booked helps, but I assure you have the key ready before the customer reaches the counter and greet customers with "Welcome back Mr. Smith , here is his usual room is much better to ask "what's the name of reservation?".
work I remember everything I've done / said to work with all my clients ... all disputes, complaints, comments (as I would pay to have the same memory outside of work) ... happens occasionally that a customer remains satisfied when he returns the next time he thinks I have forgotten his problem but instead are always the first to talk about it and do something to make a complaint if repeated with a thank you.
some regular customers who need someone to talk to, a confidant, a shoulder, a priest, a friend ... I often tell their work problems, family members, they tell you their scappatele and their betrayals, you tell his pregnant wife or son again, of their divorce or the loss of a loved one ...
often do not know what to say, it is easy to rejoice in the birth of a child ... but it is difficult to comfort a customer who discovered that his wife has a lover when he was made an ass to give her a decent life rather than ... What can you say to a client who lost his wife to cancer or what can you say to a client with cancer ... often do not need to say anything, it is often enough to listen, it is often better not say anything ...
